If you’d like to send music for Reggae Rhythm Update, you can request my mailing address. I support the music industry and I play CDs. I am happy to listen to MP3s, but for my podcast, I prefer to play uncompressed music, directly from CD.
If you have a pre-release, I prefer to take a file encoded with lossless compression like the .flac format. Reggae Rhythm Update is compressed to a 128 kbps MP3 file, so it doesn’t make sense to play already compressed music and further degrade the sound quality. I care about my audience and I believe they want the best sound quality possible. If this sounds far too complicated, don’t worry about it. Send me your MP3.

Yes man,
I have always appreciated your enthusiasm for my radio programs like a few years back when you’d listen to WRBB Boston via their internet feed. It’s great to have you aboard and listening to the podcast!

Hello Joshua B,
It was a pleasure to hear the 12″ version of the Rolands “Stormy Night” a big tune in the UK. Kofi’s cover as of recent is a reminder to all of us who revere the British Lovers Rock sound that it all still matters. Respect Josh B. Sincerely, Michael L

First of all,I have been only listening to your show for a few months and I really enjoy your show. Why didn’t I know about you show much sooner?
I was listening to #40 Baby Please, and if I remember correctly, you said you never heard the song “Searching”, by China Black before. I have it on vinyl and its in storage right now or else I would tell you which album. As soon as I can get a holdof it I will most definetly let you know.
It is one of my favorites.
Keep up the good work.

Hi Chalie. Actually, I played the China Black tune on the same show that I spoke about it, #40.
Great to have you as a listener!

Loving your podcast. Just discovered it recently and have worked my way up to the Ya Ho broadcast (which is a killer!)
Keep up the great work.

JB,
Love those Reggae to Soul podcasts. A fantastic idea, and a timely reminder that Jamaican music has always evolved out of a dialogue with black American music, from the 40s, right through to today’s music.
Respect,
Lord Jones of London

Let me just say, I really enjoy your show.
Two of my favourite artists happens to be Sanchez and Dennis Brown. If you could do a segment on them sometime in the future that would be awesome.
As I’ve said before, keep up the good work.

Greetings,
I finally got around to listen to #24 – How could I live, and I must say I have to sit back. Dennis Brown is one of my all time favourites. I had the opportunity to see him perform in Baltimore before he died and I GREAT time. I had a sore throat for days.

I love the show, but, I am disappointed that you have not done a show in memory of Jean Adebambo! She was one of UK’s great lovers rock artists!

Hi Josh and greeting from the volcanic highlands of Guatemala where the Bushman Ollie Reggae Show reigns supreme. My dear friend Twiggi turned me on to your show and I just got finished listening to several episodes. I like it when you play multiple versions of the same tune. And I have a suggestion for you, there were MANY reggae versions made of the Cat Stevens hit Everything I Own including Ken Booth, a great reggae dub version by Boy George, and MANY others.
If you have not done it already spinning four or five versions of that song would be great. I am wondering if you make it to the best Roots Reggae festival in North America the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival? My eventual plan is to have my reggae show live broadcast around the world on Short Wave. You would be surprised how many people, mainly outside of the USA still listen to short wave.
On a cold windy night we are grooving with your show watching Fuego Volcano in the distance erupting like a vulcan furnace.
Keep up the good work, I think that your show is great.

Good day people. Its good that the music of peace lovers brings us together here. I greet you all in the Name of The Most high.
Joshua, thanks for #78, was worth the wait. Just had a few minutes on it. I expect to give it more time with weekend. Duty calls havent allowed me to sit.
Anyway, would anyone know the singer and title of of this song: I dont smoke cigarretes….I went under cover just to find my lover in the kitchen, meanwhile she is frying chicken Pass The Cool Champaigne, Pass It Over. I need to know the singer and song title please
Joshua B on 20 Mar 2010 at 9:54 pm #
Hi Gerhard,
That song is “Kushumpeng” by Frankie Paul. “Pass the kushumpeng; pass it over.”

Josh,
I came across your show by chance a few years ago and have been an avid listener since. I must say that you never fail to deliver a great compilation of tunes to keep a positive vibe and mindset. To give you some background on me, born and raised in SoCal but Ive been an Infantryman for the past 13 years which translates to, a lot of time away from home, so your show is what keeps me mellow during the quiet hours.
Please keep it coming my friend! Big up from Afghanistan, much respect!
Javier

Dr Mark just turned me on to this site, SWEET! Up in VT we love our roots for sure, as you know. I spent a little time in the Boston area in the mid-nineties while dating a girl who ended being roommates with K-Don, small world. I actually still have an old WERS sticker on one of my stacks at home. My question, or idea for that matter, is what is the name of the rhythm behind Wayne Wonder and Buju’s Lonley, Lonely Lonely? The nineties blew that rhythm up with that phlanged-out bass sound and I’ve been jonsing to here more of it. Who sang the Miss Maddy track on that rhythm? Terror Fabulous maybe? A mix on top of that would be insane. Keep up the good work, I look forward to hearing more. PS… If you are at 84 podcasts, where are the rest of them? Maybe I’m just getting greedy, Ha Ha. Big Up, Nate

JB-
love your show- keep up the good work!!! Great info too!! I have a lot of catching up to do- so many shows!! I was in Boston in the early millennium and listened to Emerson’s station religiously- always loved it! So much of my music education came from that station. Did a lot of hanging out in the commons, gardens, esplanade- Roots run deep!!!
one love <3
