#50 – A Fool

Alton EllisReggae Rhythm Update reaches a small milestone with 50 episodes. First up is one of my favorite rhythms, Alton Ellis’ precious and short, “A Fool.” After that, it’s another version excursion with Otis Gayle’s version of the Spinners’ “I’ll Be Around.” Both of these are Studio One rhythms. One correction: At the 1:42 mark I say, “90 minutes of Studio One brilliance.” I meant to say “90 seconds…” in reference to the very short Alton Ellis track that is about to end.

Alton Ellis – A Fool
Tony Tuff – Try a Little Thing
Carlton Livingston – Class of ’69
Papa Tullo – To You 12″
Leroy Mafia – I’m in the Mood
Dennis Brown – You’ve Got the Best of Me
Freddie McGregor – Know Jah
Otis Gayle – I’ll Be Around
Sound Dimension – I’ll Be Around Version
Johnny Osbourne – We Need Love
Donna Marie & Peter Spence – I’ll Be Around

#49 – Baltimore

Kofi Kingston

Up first is wrestler Kofi Kingston’s “S.O.S.” theme music by Collie Buddz. If you haven’t seen Kofi Kingston’s ring entrance, check out ECW on the Sci-Fi channel. Kingston’s entrance is quite a production, with the music, the lights, and the huge Jamaican flag lit up across the stage. Next up is a great, high-energy Morgan Heritage song, “Raid Rootz Dance” which borrows from Steel Pulse. Later on in the show, it’s the “Baltimore” rhythm. Next show is the fiftieth!

Collie Buddz – S.O.S.
Morgan Heritage – Raid Rootz Dance
Richie Spice – Open the Door
Chezidek – Inna di Road
Peter Spence & Tippa Irie – War
Tamlins – Baltimore
Welton Irie – Hotter Reggae Music
Dennis Brown – The More I Excel
Everton Blender – The Man
Anthony B – Bun Down Sodom
George Nooks – Baltimore
