#43 – Soul to Reggae Part 2
By popular demand, here is the second show where I play U.S. originals and their reggae covers. I’ve already planned out a couple more shows like this, so they’ll be coming up in the future. In very sad news, Mikey Dread died of a brain tumor on March 15. Here is a link to the Jamaica Observer news article. Also in the future, I hope to do a tribute show to him.
Billy Stewart – Sitting in the Park
Alton Ellis – Sitting in the Park
Hortense Ellis – Sitting in the Park
Slim Smith – Sitting in the Park
Cassandra – Sitting in the Park
Freddie McGregor – Sitting in the Park
Flo & Eddie – Sitting in the Park
Delfonics – La La Means I Love You
Alton Ellis – La La Means I Love You
Impressions – I’m So Proud
Joe White – I’m So Proud
Pat Kelly – I’m So Proud
Kofi – I’m So Proud
JD Smoothe – I’m So Proud
Jerry Butler – Aware of Love
Tinga Stewart – Aware of Love

I asked for part deux and got it, so I had to say thanks for the versions galore. When you can, please keep rollin with the “Soul to Reggae” ball… very cool to see artists influencing one another.
PS i read other posts about the intro, thinking it could use some more music. The rest is A grade.

Off with your head!! The intro is blasphemous!! Reggae is Rasta business!! “SeeRas” business.. Not some laughy-laughy, ha-ha, joke business!!! Chooooooooooooo!!!

JB,
Love those Reggae to Soul podcasts. A fantastic idea, and a timely reminder that Jamaican music has always evolved out of a dialogue with black American music, from the 40s, right through to today’s music.
Respect,
Lord Jones of London

Georgie Fame did a lovely version of “Sitting in the Park” in 1967. Not reggae, more like the Billy Stewart original, but very apt given his strong links with Jamaican artists over the years.
